Reflecting on my year as the Nettle Lady, founder of Nettle Revolution

Reflecting on my year as the Nettle Lady, founder of Nettle Revolution

A reflection on what I have learned, discovered, and explored

This year has been one of deep learning, steady becoming, and a quiet strengthening of my relationship with nettles and the wider natural world.

I have continued to work with nettles not simply as a plant, but as a living ally and teacher. Through foraging, fibre work, tea infusions, balm making, natural ink, and close seasonal observation, I have come to understand nettles as something far greater than their reputation. They are nourishment. They are medicine. They are thread. They are story.

Alongside hands on practice, I have deepened my research. What once began 7 years ago as a quiet intuition and personal curiosity is now supported by knowledge I trust. Over time, that early spark has grown into a body of understanding shaped by study, experience, and close relationship with the plant. I have explored how nettles sit at the meeting point of traditional wisdom and modern science, and how they can offer support in today’s world where so many of us feel depleted, overstimulated, and disconnected from our own inner rhythms.

This year I also discovered something important about my work. People are not only curious about nettles. They are longing for what nettles represent. A return to simplicity. A sense of steadiness. A reconnection with the body and the land. In workshops and conversations, I have watched uncertainty soften into confidence, and overwhelm ease into calm, as people learn to see a so called weed as a powerful ally.

I have explored the deeper symbolism of nettles too. The sting becomes a doorway. It invites us to look at boundaries, resilience, and transformation. It reminds us that healing is not always soft at first, but it can become deeply supportive once we learn how to meet it with respect.

This journey has not been walked alone. I want to acknowledge those who have supported me along the way. The people who have coached me, encouraged me, and believed in my vision, as well as those who offered practical and financial support at moments when it mattered deeply. Their trust helped Nettle Revolution take root and continue to grow.

I would also like to hold in memory Howard Lyons, who passed away unexpectedly on 25 December 2015. Howard believed in me and in my work, and his support remains part of the foundation on which I built Nettle Revolution. I carry his belief in me forward with gratitude and respect.

Most of all, I have explored my own role within Nettle Revolution. I have grown into my voice as a guide, in a grounded and steady way. I am learning to trust my lived experience, my creativity, and the path I am walking. Nettle Revolution is no longer just something I do. It is something I embody.

As I look ahead, I feel clear about what comes next. I will continue to offer workshops, and I am also opening space for more one to one support, for those who want a gentler, nature led approach to wellbeing and self care.

If you feel drawn to this work, I would love to welcome you. Whether you come to learn, to heal, to make, or simply to remember what nature has always offered us, there is a place for you here.
