A New Nettle Revolution Workshop This January
On 6 December, Nettle Revolution gathered at The Gardener’s House, Penzance, for a warm and inspiring workshop dedicated to the powerful and often misunderstood stinging nettle.
The gathering offered a gentle yet informative introduction to nettles as essential medicine, nourishment, and fibre. We explored their long history, their role in winter wellbeing, and why nettles deserve to be reclaimed as one of nature’s great allies rather than dismissed as a weed.
Participants, known as The Nettlers, engaged fully in every aspect of the experience. Nettles were shared as tea and tasting, allowing everyone to connect with the plant through the senses while learning about its mineral richness and restorative qualities.
A central part of the workshop was the making of intentional nettle wands. The Nettlers worked with quiet focus and intention, creating personal objects that supported clarity, focus, and intuition. Each wand held hidden words of wisdom and hope, carefully wrapped and bound within, making the wand both meaningful and deeply personal.
The wands were bound using nettle yarn, and as we worked, we discussed the remarkable qualities of nettle fibre. Nettles produce fibres that are naturally antimicrobial, hollow, and highly insulating, making them exceptionally warm and protective. These same fibres are my chosen yarn for weaving, particularly for my nettle scarves, which are designed to feel winter hugging, breathable and alive next to the skin. The connection between plant, fibre, and wellbeing became tangible as each Nettler completed their wand and took it home.
From conversations shared towards the close of the workshop and feedback messages afterwards, most Nettlers expressed that the experience exceeded their expectations. Many spoke of the calm, the depth of connection and the joy of creating something meaningful. There was a strong shared wish to attend another workshop, which made it clear that the Nettle Revolution journey was ready to continue.
Introducing the January Nettle Revolution Workshop
Nettle Ink and Painting with the Plant
In response, Nettle Revolution is delighted to offer a new workshop this January, introducing an additional creative element.
Participants will be guided through the process of extracting colour from nettles and transforming it into natural nettle ink. We will then explore painting and expressive mark making, allowing the plant to guide line, texture, and tone.
This is a slow and mindful practice that encourages observation, presence, and trust in natural processes. No previous art experience is needed. The emphasis is on connection and exploration rather than outcome.
As with all Nettle Revolution workshops, the experience will weave together plant wisdom, hands-on creativity, and a nurturing space for curiosity and shared discovery.
Nettles have nourished us, clothed us, and supported our well-being. Now they invite us to speak through ink.
Further details and booking information will be shared on Eventbrite soon.
Places will be limited to maintain a calm and supportive atmosphere.
Nature is our healer.
And the nettle continues to guide the way.
