How a Hapa-zome Nettle Leaf Print by Nettle Revolution Became the Album Cover for Michaela Smith’s Melodic CD – A Harmonious Meeting of Nature and Music
Written by Geoff Smith – proud father of The Kitchen Band and devoted husband of the incredible Michaela Smith, singer-songwriter and soul of this melodic creation.
In this heartfelt article below, Geoff shares the story behind the beautiful synergy between Michaela’s music and the chosen album artwork — a Japanese Hapa-zome nettle leaf print created by Nettle Revolution. It’s a story of rhythm, resonance, and a shared love for nature’s voice in both art and sound.
Acclaimed songwriter Michaela Smith, and The Kitchen Band, are proud to announce the imminent release of their new 6-track CD titled Wilderness. Recorded live at Studio 35 for Source FM Radio in Falmouth, Wilderness showcases Michaela’s lyrical depth, amazing voice, and the warm, grounded sound that has become her signature.
All six songs on the CD were written by Michaela, whose thoughtful song writing draws listeners into moments of reflection and hope, guided by the warm, organic sound of The Kitchen Band.
At the heart of the album is the title track Wilderness, a reflective piece inspired by the evocative lines from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam:
"A Jug of Wine, A Loaf of Bread—and Thou / Beside me singing in the Wilderness."
This opening sets the tone for a soulful musical journey through themes of companionship, resilience, and spirituality.
Another standout, Kitchen Table, invites listeners into an intimate, welcoming space—one where friendship and support are always within reach. Through gentle melodies and insightful lyrics, the song leaves the listener with “radiant words in your heart,” a comfort during life’s more uncertain moments.
The cover of the CD features the beautiful environmental artwork of Jane Gray at www.nettlerevolution.com. Jane’s passionate concern for the environment and her innovative art work and activism have a clear resonance with Michaela’s songs.
Wilderness will be available in Autumn 2025 .
