Nettle Revolution has always been more than weaving fibres. It is about weaving values, memories, and a legacy that reaches beyond me. These days, it has truly become a family affair. My two grandsons, just four and seven years old, arrive daily with wide eyes and eager hands, ready to help with the weaving whenever they can.
At their age, they do not just see yarn and nettles; they see magic. They see their grandma Jane turning nature into something strong, soft, and beautiful. In those moments, they are learning far more than the practical skill of weaving. They are discovering patience, creativity, and the joy of being part of something bigger than themselves.
By watching me work with nettles, they are learning that what many dismiss as a weed can actually be a gift. It is a source of nourishment, medicine, and fibre. They are learning mathematical counting and sequencing. They are learning that the Earth provides everything we need if we treat it with kindness and respect. They are learning that even the smallest pair of hands can help care for the planet.
Most of all, they are learning about legacy. They are learning that what we do today matters for tomorrow. They are also learning that their grandma is leaving behind not just scarves or workshops but a way of seeing the world, one where creativity, care, and respect for nature come together.
I often say that Nettle Revolution is my gift to the planet, but really, it is also a gift to my family. Each thread my grandsons help to weave carries their laughter, curiosity, and love, making them part of the story. And one day, when they are grown, I hope they will remember that they, too, can weave change.
If you want to be part of this legacy, you can support Nettle Revolution by exploring my handwoven scarves, joining a workshop, or following along with the journey. Together, we can take the sting out of nettles and weave a future rooted in care for each other and the Earth.
