A Greener Future for British Fibre

A Greener Future for British Fibre

Exhibition at Trebah Garden - Cornwall

There are places where nature speaks softly but powerfully, and Trebah Garden is one of them. Nestled within a sheltered Cornish valley leading down to the Helford River, this extraordinary garden offers a living, breathing reminder of the beauty, resilience, and intelligence of the natural world. It is here that Nettle Revolution is proud to be part of the exhibition “A Greener Future for British Fibre”, running until the end of April.

A Meeting of Nature, Fibre, and Future Thinking - This exhibition brings together makers, growers, and visionaries who are reimagining the future of textiles in Britain. At its heart is a simple but powerful question:

How can we return to materials that honour both people and planet?

Through my work as a weaver and natural health advocate, I explore the potential of one of Britain’s most overlooked plants, the stinging nettle. Often dismissed, yet deeply regenerative, nettles offer strength, sustainability, and nourishment in equal measure.

What You Will Discover - Within the exhibition, you will find:

Handwoven nettle and linen scarves, combining strength, texture, and natural beauty. Upcycled teabag dresses, reflecting a “waste not, want not” philosophy, devotional ritual rugs, 'Smile Vessels' to make you smile, wall hangings and more.

I gave a talk at Trebah Garden with insights into how nettles can be used not only for fibre, but also for wellbeing and daily nourishment

Each piece of my work tells a story of resourcefulness, of connection to the land, and of a slower, more mindful way of living.

Why Nettles Matter - Nettles are more than a material. They are a symbol of resilience and renewal.

They grow abundantly without the need for chemicals, enrich biodiversity, and have been used for centuries for both cloth and healing. In today’s fast-paced, synthetic world, returning to such plants offers a grounded and hopeful path forward.

Through Nettle Revolution, I am working to shift perception, inviting people to see nettles not as something to avoid, but as something to understand, respect, and even embrace.

Visit and Experience - Access to the garden is via the usual entry fee; however, the exhibition is free to attend and runs until the end of April. Whether you are passionate about textiles, sustainability, or simply wish to spend time immersed in one of Cornwall’s most beautiful gardens, this is an experience to savour.

Take time to walk, to look closely, and to reconnect with the quiet intelligence of the natural world.
